CLASS TITLE: Project Manager

 

LOCATION: Earth City

 

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

 

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under supervision of the Director of Product Development, this position will work in a team environment to manage the organizational and logistical tasks of multiple projects to facilitate on-time, well-documented, complete projects that meet customer (internal and external) requirements. Project scopes are not limited, but may range from 3 months to 2 years and involve 7-20 people across multiple disciplines and business units. Project topics may range from line extensions and cost reductions to new product development, and may involve work in preventative and restorative Medical Devices that may be mechanical and/or chemical in nature.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Coordinate team members, manage logistics and complete required tasks related projects listed above. Ensure efficient and effective communication within Product Development team. Ensure overall organization and tracking of all active projects.

 

Specific Processes:

  • Become a process owner of Young Innovations’ Change Control and Design control processes

  • Facilitate review and approvals of project screen / project charter documents

  • Log essential project information for all active projects into a project tracking system

  • Attend weekly meetings and compile weekly updates from multiple groups of people and consolidate for easy communication of project updates

  • Work with key stakeholders to develop project plans / Gantt charts, and ensure tasks are completed within the scope of the plan

  • Take notes during meetings, design reviews, focus groups or any other group activities, distribute notes with next steps to group members, log notes with applicable design files, and follow-up on next steps

  • Execute sample delivery to customers or test labs for product testing, design validations, or other activities

  • File and scan project documents to appropriate design files, and ensure said documents have been completely and properly filled out

  • Complete project checklists to ensure proper documents have been compiled before transfer to manufacturing and final design release stages

  • Fill out and route Document Change Requests (DCRs) and other standard documentation for approval

  • Coordinate training for corporate or facility procedures related to Engineering and Product development, including onboarding activities for new hires

  • Review reports and raw data to suggest changes or supply data analysis for complaint or protocol data as needed

  • Provide help to team members to facilitate task completion as needed. Ensure project hurdles and challenges are well communicated and brought forward to the team and Director so they may be resolved in a timely manner

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Training and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution. A degree in a technical field such as Engineering is preferred

  • At least 3 years of experience in project management, preferably with projects similar in scope listed above. A PMP certificate is not required if experience is relevant

  • Demonstrated writing experience – both technical writing and project communication

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

  • Must be results-oriented and capable of managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Formal training in project management or experience in MS Project or Smart Sheets is preferred

  • Must be a team player with strong interpersonal skills who can delegate work tasks to effectively complete projects and create win-win situations when possible

  • Must also work independently and take a hands-on approach to the work when necessary

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, both technically and with project communication

  • Intermediate / Advanced knowledge of design control requirements for Class I and II medical devices

  • Intermediate knowledge of statistics and methods to analyze data and solve problems

  • Intermediate knowledge of process equipment and validations

  • Basic / intermediate knowledge of dental products

  • Basic knowledge of Good Documentation Practices to ensure documents are correctly completed

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Periodic lifting or moving objects 40 lbs. or less

 

Working Conditions

Office environment, with sitting and standing for long periods of time. Occasional exposure to manufacturing plant environment, with some abnormal variations in temperature, unavoidable fumes, noise, dust and atmospheric conditions. Ability to travel 30%-40%. Visit trade shows, vendors, customers or different manufacturing facilities to provide logistical assistance when needed.
