Under supervision of the Director of Product Development, this position will be responsible for the support of new product development of Young Dental's Disposable Prophylaxis Angle, Handpiece, and other mechanical orientated product lines.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Assist in the Product Development Process to help increase speed of development for Class I and II medical devices.
  • Clearly and effectively write protocols, reports, and presentations using MS Office products.
  • Complete evaluations as outlined in protocols, product / process validations, etc.
  • Use standard statistical methods to determine and interpret results using Excel, Minitab, or any other statistical software.

  • Complete 3D modeling or drawings for product line extensions or prototypes using SolidWorks (preferred) or any other modeling software.

  • Product or Process cost estimation for line extensions or small scale projects - Create or interpret routing and bill of materials using IFS or any other ERP software.

  • Organize or handle logistics of rapid prototyping, specifically 3D printing or machining of prototypes

  • Complete risk analysis for products or processes with guidance from other department members.

  • Develop and analyze test method effectiveness for line extensions or new products.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S. in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering

  • 2-4 Years of experience in medical device, pharmaceutical, or food product development. Applicants with significant internships or a full Co-op term in an applicable field would qualify.

 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

  • Ability to work in groups

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Basic knowledge of statistics

  • Modeling Software - SolidWorks preferred

  • Project Management - MS Project or SmartSheets preferred

  • Basic knowledge of Injection Molding Part of Fixture Design

  • Rapid Prototyping Techniques (3D printing, machining)

  • Design of Experiments

  • Basic knowledge Product or Process Validations

  • Basic knowledge of dental products or medical devices

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Office environment Sitting and Standing for long periods of time. Occasional exposure to manufacturing plant environment, with some abnormal variations in temperature, unavoidable fumes, noise, dust and atmospheric conditions. Periodic lifting or moving objects 40lbs or less.

 

Ability to travel 10% or less. Visit trade shows, vendors, or customers to provide technical assistance when needed.
